Winter’s Message (Gabriel’s Message)

 Winter’s Message (Gabriel’s Message)

This song is "a Basque folk carol, originally based on Angelus Ad Virginem, a 13th or 14th Century Latin carol" - wikipedia. My browsing leads me to believe this is true of both the lyrics and the melody.

I'm using the version recorded by Sting for "A Very Special Christmas" compilation. Instead of having the repeating last line I decided to have a more specific line for each verse.

The winter creatures from the north lands came
Their wings as drifted snowAnd fur, the same

"All hail" said we "revered and rugged animals"

In nature's fortitude, oh, glorious

"The ice and snow shall decorate the trees
All generations laud and honor these
The sun shall make them glint and glow so splendidly

Most highly favored sparkle, glorious

Then hibernators wake and venture out
To search for food they wander all about,
The brand new generations of the forest's kin
The animals emerging, glorious

Oh trees whose sap does flow and run so free
In Xylem moves the blood with sugar sweet

And everyone throughout the world will ever say:
"In nature's sweetness revel, glorious"
