We Three Winter Spirits (We Three Kings, Traditional)

 We Three Winter Spirits (We Three Kings, Traditional)

We three Kings is a Christmas carol that was written by John Henry Hopkins Jr. in 1857.

It was noteworthy that Hopkins composed both the lyrics and music; contemporary carol composers usually wrote either the lyrics or music but not both. - Wikipedia

We three winter spirits are,

Bearing gifts we traverse afar

Field and fountain, moor and mountain,

Under the evening stars.

*Oh, winter's wonder, winter's night,

Winter's royal beauty bright.

Frost so fleeting, chills receding,

Guide us with thy snowflakes' flight.

Swirly snowflakes, blown in the winds

Sending chills, the season begins

Storms a-raising, so amazing

Crystaline magic spins

*

Decidouos branches, bare and plain,

Evergreens remind us again

Life forever, ceasing never

Over us all to reign.

*

Cider, spice, and freedom from harm,

Shelter, cloth, avert all alarm.

Feast and praising, snow drifts blazing

Round about homes so warm.

*

The snow, the forest – nature's gifts

Creating shelter, spirits lift

Nature growing, Humans glowing

Embracing the season's shifts
