The First Snow Fell (The First Noel)

The First Snow Fell (The First Noel)

The melody of this carol is the subject of some speculation. The first printing of the tune comes from Christmas Carols, Ancient and Modern (1833) by William Sandys. This version of the tune was transcribed from a Cornwall collection (1827) and, indeed, bears some resemblance to other tunes from this region. - UMCDescipleship.org

The first snow fell, on a bright winter's eve
The abundance of which yielded work's rare reprieve

Our work, on pause, and our schoolwork too

For a cold winter's day has much fun stuff to do

Snow fell, snow fell, snow fell, snow fell

Playful laughter rings out like a bell

And by the sun's great glorious light

The icicles twinkle and glisten so bright

We seek for the best place for us to build

A snow-castle and some snow friends on a hill

Snow fell, snow fell, snow fell, snow fell

Playful laughter rings out like a bell

The sun drew down to the western sky

Over town and city to yield to the night

When at that time we seek sustenance

After chilled romps and icy shenanigans

Snow fell, snow fell, snow fell, snow fell

Playful laughter rings out like a bell

When then at night, we had warm cups of tea

And the cat in our lap while watching tv

And upon the earth, snow covered in white

The luminous full moon cast glorious light

Snow fell, snow fell, snow fell, snow fell

Playful laughter rings out like a bell

Then let us all go with one accord

To replenish our hearts with the ones we adore

For the company of beloved friends

Will certainly bring about better ends

Snow fell, snow fell, snow fell, snow fell

Playful laughter rings out like a bell
