Oh Little Northern Winter Town (Oh Little Town of Bethlehem)
Oh Little Northern Winter Town (Oh Little Town of Bethlehem)
I'm using the melody most common in North America written by Lewis Henry Redner (December 15, 1831 – August 29, 1908). - Wikipedia
In the same way I thought of somber thankfulness in “Let All Who Are To Mirth Inclined” I was keen on giving a few props specifically to farmers SOMEWHERE in these songs. Verse 3 gives them a lyrical fist bump. It’s not much, but maybe future songs will yield more fruitful expressions of gratitude to those who keep society going.
O little northern winter town
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The spark of frost and snow
The sharp caress of frigidness
And icicles twinkling glow
For in this house surrounded now
By gathering winter wind
While mortals sleep, the curtains keep
The warmth held fast within
The morning star will shine and
Light up the crystal world
And praises sing, sweet chiming ring
A twinkling song is heard
How thankfully, how thankfully
We take in sustenance.
The bellies full and plentiful
Give thanks with reverence.
For through the growing season
The farmers in their fields
Did harvest food that tastes so good.
We're nourished from their yield.
Oh reverence for solemn nights
Awaiting light's return
We hold so tight with all our might
Internal flames still burn
We hear the echoes coming
Of future's healthy days
Cast fully out our fear and doubt
And happily, we play
