O Snowy Night (Oh Holy Night)

O Snowy Night (Oh Holy Night)

Melody written in 1844 by Adolphe Charles Adam (24 July 1803 – 3 May 1856). I’m most familiar with Josh Groban’s live recording. My lyrics are another very aspirational sentiment.

O snowy night, the stars are brightly shining

It is the time for the sunlight's return

Long lay the world, in pain and error pining

Till we awake from our self-indulgent sleep

The thrill of love, engaging our conscience

So that we break our old inglorious ways

Find it within-- yourself to care for others

Oh, night so dark, oh night so dark and drear

Oh night, so dark! Oh, night so dark and drear

Led by the light of humanity's potential

With glowing hearts at our tables, we speak

So, led by love and laughter through the darkness

We keep the steadfast concern for the weak

Our better selves laid thus upon our shirtsleeves

In all our trials, born to speak of love

We know their needs, to weakness we give assistance

Behold the gifts, these gifts to share with all

Behold, these gifts! Behold, gifts for us all

Truly we teach, the children to be caring

This law is love, and the truth all informs

Chains shall we break, for slavery is evil

And we deliver oppressed ones from harm

Sweet songs of joy, in grateful chorus raise we,

Let all within us seek for liberty

Teach them to see that all humans are equal

This power we share, equally amongst us all

This power we share, this power equally for all.
