Fairies We Have Heard On High (Angels We Have Heard On High)

 Fairies We Have Heard On High (Angels We Have Heard On High)

"Angels We Have Heard on High" is a Christmas carol to the hymn tune "Gloria" from a traditional French song of unknown origin called “Les Anges dans nos campagnes”. - Wikipedia

This is the first song I did about LOTR. How many will I do? Who knows! It’s not my favorite series but so many friends love it, and it’s become so overwhelmingly beloved all over the world that we can all join in and sing about a story that lacks the baggage of belief. According to google “aglar’ni pherianath” is elvish for ‘glory to the hobbits’ so I’m just taking google at its word. 😊 Otherwise “Gloria in excelsis hobbits” works, too. And yes, I put 16 As in the word Aglar’ni because of course. All those syllables are important.

Fairies we have heard on high

Sweetly singing o'er the Shire

Ents and dwarves and elves reply

Echoing their joyous choir.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaglar’ni pheriannaaaaaaath

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaglar’ni pheriannaaaaaaath

Hobbits, why this jubilee?

Why your joyous strains prolong?

What the gladsome tidings be?

Which inspire your heavenly song?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaglar’ni pheriannaaaaaaath

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaglar’ni pheriannaaaaaaath

Come to Sauron's grave and see

Hobbits who sojourned so long;

To bring forth that evil ring,

Thrown into the fire's maw.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaglar’ni pheriannaaaaaaath

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaglar’ni pheriannaaaaaaath

He heads to undying lands,

Ring wraiths (or Nazgul) dealt a deadly blow;

Samwise to the garden tends,

New life and new flowers grow.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaglar’ni pheriannaaaaaaath
