Blessed Be The Working Class (Blessed Be The Maid Marie)

Blessed Be The Working Class (Blessed Be The Maid Marie)

This carol first appeared in the 1901 “Cowley Carol Book”, a collection of 15th-century tunes compiled by G.R. Woodward. - Jwpepper.com

Our Changing Climate has a video on Nebula called “Why We Actually Need A War On Christmas” focusing on its commercialization. From that video I was inspired to create a song that reflects class solidarity that was once associated with this time of year. Luckily, I had one more Carol that I hadn’t redone the words to.

Boist'rous be that humble crowd

Born of protests, loud and proud

Leaving class and couth behind

Equal rights for all mankind

Refrain:

Flip society on its head

Equity be here instead

Callithumpian parades

Make exploiters feel afraid.

What they all refuse to see:

Our suff'ringbenefits thee

Refrain

Sweet and raucous was the throng

Worker's proletariat song

"peace on earth, equality;

To destroy all poverty"

Refrain

Lo, these kings of ill-got wealth

Robbing neighbors of their health

Blinded by their shiny things

This indif'rence torment brings

Refrain

Share, instead, in troubled times

Resources they should provide

Hierarchies serve no use

They perpetuate abuse

Refrain
